The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it has put its challenges behind it and its National Working Committee (NWC) is “firmly in the saddle and very determined to stabilize and reengineer the party to retake its preeminent place in the polity.”
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh in a statement on Saturday said “the National Working Committee appreciates the concerns, sacrifices and valuable contributions of critical stakeholders during the trying time” noting that the party “is emerging from its challenges a stronger and more united front.”
National Chairman, Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih had recently resigned voluntarily. The party described it as a huge sacrifice necessary for the rebuilding process.
The leadership said “though our party in the past few weeks has been in the news more for internal challenges than for preparations for active opposition, effective mechanisms are being put into place by the NWC to reverse the trend, while leveraging on the new spirit of accommodation, the confidence and support of critical stakeholders including PDP governors and legislators-elect, as well as other officials of the party across board to return the PDP to its winning ways.
“In the course of the campaigns, a lot of Nigerians became partisan and politically active, the love for various parties actively aroused passions in attempts to project support for their candidates. Such passion, drive and zeal have expectedly resulted in a political frenzy that has kept the citizenry and the society in a permanent election and campaign mode.
“It is thus the desire of the PDP leadership that our supporters would channel their energy towards becoming active members in their various wards, local government areas and states to boost our support base across board for the task ahead.
“Mistakes have been made, lessons have been learnt. We must therefore leverage on the new spirit of oneness and our collective determination to regain preeminence, intensify efforts towards a speedy rebuilding of our great party while retooling for a forceful, yet highly credible opposition to regain power at the center.
“We believe that only a peaceful, credible and constructive opposition can guarantee us seamless path to victory in 2019. To achieve, this all hands must be on deck.
“Currently, our great party is searching for an appropriate and suitable replacement for the National Chairman from the North East geo-political zone. In this regard therefore, we expect that our committed members should turn their focus on this very important task, which is essential in the repositioning process,” the party said.
PDP Asks Buhari To Stop Killing Of #EndSARS Protesters Across Nigeria
This was contained in a statement titled “EndSARS- Lekki Massacre,” signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, late on Tuesday.
Ologbodiyan said, “The Peoples Democratic Party, condemns in very strong terms, the killing of peaceful protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos as well as other parts of our country.
“It is shocking that security agents and, in some cases, thugs, were reportedly deployed to end the lives of promising Nigerians. This, to say the least, is saddening.
“Those responsible for the heinous murder of the innocent and harmless Nigerians must account for their nefarious acts.
“The PDP calls on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately direct an end to these wanton killings across our nation.
#EndSARS: Gov Bello Warns Protesters Against Overthrowing Buhari
He stated this during an interview with Africa Independent Television AIT on Monday night.
Bello called on his fellow state governors to tack charge in their respective states so as to prevent loss of lives and properties due to attacks by hoodlums.
He, however, warned Nigerian youths to resist the temptation of using the current situation in the country to seek an undemocratic change in leadership.
The Governor warned that those interested in the presidency must wait till 2023 and go through democratic processes.
He urged the protesting youths to leave the streets and embrace dialogue.
#EndSARS: Protesters Rain Curses On Me: Femi Adesina
Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina has revealed that he has been receiving curses from Nigerians through phone calls and text messages over a false report that he advised his principal to shun protesters.
Adesina stated in an article he wrote titled: “An Enemy of the People’ published on Thursday evening.
Adesina denied that he advised President Buhari for whatever reasons on the End SARS protesters, but said an online platform falsely accused him that he told Buhari to “ignore the protests and not give in to the demands of ‘Twitter warriors’.
He explained that his telephone numbers were posted on social media, thereby, making people reach out to him with curses.
