Man, 33, Remanded in Ikoyi Prisons for Alleged Murder

JailAn Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday remanded one Lucky Nnaeto, 33, at the Ikoyi Prisons’ custody for allegedly causing the death of one 39-year-old Tunde Odutola.

The Magistrate, Mr Adefioye, said the accused should be kept at the prisons pending the receipt of legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPPs).

Adefioye then adjourned the case to June 17.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Cpl. Iyobosa Onaiwu, had told the court that accused, whose address was not disclosed in court, is facing a two-count charge of murder and conspiracy.

Onaiwu said that Nnaeto and others, who are presently at large, had beaten Odutola to death with their bare hands.

Onaiwu said that the accused committed the offences on April 19 at 9 a.m., at Awe Crescent by Shipeolu Link, Onipanu in Lagos State.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 221 and 231 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 221 prescribes death sentence for offenders.

NAN also reports that the accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the offences preferred against him. (NAN)
