Katsina Lawmakers Poised For Showdown With Gov. Shema Over State Finances

Barrister Ibrahim Shema KatsinaGovernor Ibrahim Shema has earned the wrath of fifteen members of the Katsina state House of Assembly as they are poised for a showdown with him over what they described as mishandling of state finances.

Subsequently, the lawmakers have vowed to send him an impeachment notice by next week.

Addressing journalists in Katsina on Tuesday, spokesperson of the lawmakers, Danlami Kurfi, said Governor Shema in recent times embarked on a spending spree without following due process.

He said some of the legislators, who are mostly defectors to the All Progressives Congress, APC, and some aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have met and agreed to raise the issue against the governor.

The lawmakers listed the alleged questionable expenditures to include N33 billion local government funds, selling of state houses in Katsina and Abuja, SURE-P vehicles amongst others.

Kurfi also said the governor has never sent audited state financial report as required by law to the legislature.

“If we have erred before then it is now time to correct our past deeds by ensuring the truth is told to all Katsina people of the true state of finances of the state. We are to write to him this next week notice of impeachment”, he said.
