Flying Eagles Welcome Ndidi In Nuremberg

Genk defender, Ndidi gave more boost to the Nigeria Under-20 national side following his arrival at the team’s training camp in Nuremberg on Monday morning.

The 18-year-old met his Flying Eagles team-mates on the dinning table upon arrival at their Novina Hotel base. This was after a six-hour road trip with his foster father in Belgium on the steering wheels.

He said he was delighted reuniting with the youth team after his Belgium club blocked his participation at the recent African African Youth Championship in Senegal.

Ndidi was part of the coach John Obuh side which lost to Uruguay in the quarter-finals of the 2013 tournament in Turkey. He charged the present crop to aim at claiming the World U-20 championship, which has eluded the country for long, in New Zealand.

“We reached the second round two years ago and now we want to be U20 world champions in New Zealand,” he said.

“The confidence in the team is very high. Now we will fight and win together.”

Skipper Musa Muhammed expressed excitement about Ndidi’s return to the fold, adding: “Personally, his joining the team means I can go upfront from my right fullback position without any hesitation because I know he will cover for me.

“But he now has to go through the hard work we have been subjected to since we arrived in Germany.”

He played the full 90 minutes as Genk won 3-2 at Zulte-Waregem. He was fielded as a left back in the first half and then redeployed as a right back in the second period.

Kelechi Iheanacho (Manchester City, England), Isaac Success (Granada, Spain) and Moses Simon (Gent, Belgium) are the other Europe-based players expected to join the Flying Eagles.
