Under Buhari, Nigeria Will Change in the Area of Corruption, Says 3rd Republic Reps Speaker, Anaekwe

Agunwa AnaekweA former speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Agunwa Anaekwe, has expressed confidence that with the emergence of Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) as President-elect, corruption will soon become a thing of the past in the country.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP Weekend yesterday in Abuja, Anaekwe, who was Speaker in the short lived third republic, noted that corruption has done an incalculable damage to the country’s system in the last 16 years of PDP rule.

“I know that Gen Muhammadu Buhari as the president, Nigeria will change in the area of corruption. This is because corruption has done a lot of damage in this country for a very long time and the PDP-led government has shown that it does not have the will to fight it. But from his antecedent and determination, I believe that Gen Buhari has the capacity to fight corruption.

“What Nigeria needs at the moment is a man of discipline in this country because a lot of things have gone wrong. So, he will bring to bear, his personal attributes of discipline and honesty to change the situation”, he said.

The ex-Speaker expressed happiness that the change Nigerians have been clamouring for is now here, adding that though the just concluded presidential election might not be perfect, it was a huge improvement in the march towards deepening democracy.
