Katsina NLC To Shema: Settle Outstanding Gratuities Before You Leave Office

Ibrahim Shema of Katsina StateThe Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Katsina State council, has asked the outgoing administration of Governor Ibrahim Shema, to settle all outstanding gratuities before handing over to the incoming administration.

Speaking at a delegates’ conference on Thursday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, the NLC state chairman, Aliyu Matazu, said the problem of non-payment of gratuity started with the present administration.

Matazu also said government must lift ban on employment in order to inject fresh blood into the system and to nurture young talented persons that would replace the fast ageing personnel for continuity and sustainability of government.

The NLC boss lampooned the Shema administration for allocating only 35 houses to civil servants under the 510 housing unit programme, saying the number is grossly inadequate.

“We also recommend that the tenure system be scrapped and the old system, whereby civil servants retire at the age of 60 or after 35 years of service be returned”, he said.

Matazu lamented that the state was fast losing good hands due to the spate of retirement, urging government to look into the matter.
