Ex-Man Utd Captain Keane to Stand Trial Over Alleged Road Rage Offense

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has denied committing a public order offense in an alleged road rage incident.

The 43-year-old is said to have acted in aggression towards a 44-year-old taxi driver Fateh Kerar near traffic light in Ashley Road, Altrincham, on 30 January.

Keane missed a brief hearing on Wednesday, after which his lawyers have pleaded not guilty on his behalf.

He is accused under Section 4A Public Order offense of causing harassment, alarm or distress to Mr. Kerar. The Trafford Magistrates’ Court heard the prosecution will call two witnesses- understood to be Mr. Kerar and a taxi passenger- while the defense will call Keane and an additional witness.

Altrincham-based Mr. Kerar says he and Keane had an altercation after he and his passenger noticed the Irishman in his Range Rover vehicle.

The court also heard that the incident was not captured on CCTV.

The ex-Sunderland and Ipswich Town manager will face trial at the Manchester Magistrates’ Court on June 19.

Keane had quit his role as assistant boss at Aston Villa in November to concentrate on a similar role with the Republic of Ireland’s national team.
