Injured Sergio Ramos Out For Five Weeks

Real Madrid defender, Sergio Ramos will be sidelined for about five weeks with a hamstring injury, the club have announced.

The Spain international sustained the injury after eight minutes of Wednesday’s 2-1 win against Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Subsequent scans have now confirmed that the centre-back has a torn hamstring and faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

“Following tests carried out on Sergio Ramos by the Real Madrid medical service at the Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital, the player has been diagnosed with a torn hamstring in his left leg. His progress will be monitored,” the club said in a statement on its official website.

Ramos, 28, will miss Saturday’s capital city derby at Atletico Madrid as well as the Uefa Champions League round of 16 clash with Schalke.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti may have to resort to Raphael Varane or Nacho Fernandez in his absence. Ramos has made 29 appearances for the La Liga leaders in all competitions, scoring six goals.

On Friday, Ancelotti said in his press conference: “Ramos’s injury is serious. He will be out for the next five weeks but I believe in Nacho and Varane. They are good players and have plenty of enthusiasm.”

Real are already without Portuguese defender Pepe, who is sidelined with a rib injury.
