Spurs 5-3 Chelsea: Kane Fires Spurs To Emphatic Win

Harry Kane grabbed a brace as Tottenham Hotspur stunned Chelsea 5-3 at White Hart Lane on New Year’s Day.

Kane canceled out Diego Costa’s opener and Chelsea trailed 3-1 at the break, with Danny Rose and Andros Townsend’s spot kick giving Mauricio Pochettino’s men cruise control.

The England youth striker, 21, grabbed his second of the day seven minutes after the break, finding the bottom corner through John Terry’s leg after a superb turn.

Fabregas pulled one back for the Blues, but Nacer Chadli restored Spurs’ three goal cushion and, despite Terry converting at the back post, it ended a bad day for the visitors who are now joint-top with Manchester City.

Chelsea are on equal footing with Man City, 3-2 winners against Sunderland, in terms of points, goal difference and goals scored, such scenario which calls for a play-off if it were after the last game of the season.

Never mind, it is just halfway through the Premier League season and, with Tottenham climbing up to fifth after extending their unbeaten run to six, Jose Mourinho’s side will have to be on the guard because it seems the pressure has just began building up- I mean the real test of title credentials.

Spurs become the third team to score five goals against Chelsea after Liverpool (1996) and Arsenal (2011).

Kane has now scored seven times in 16 Premier League appearances this season.
