Mr Tonye Princewill, the Labour Party Governorship Candidate in Rivers, on Friday promised that his administration would create jobs through agriculture and small and medium enterprises.

Princewill told journalists in Port Harcourt that if elected, agriculture would play a major part in engaging the youths.

“Agriculture is a main part of our job creation strategy; we will engage a lot of our youths in various agricultural skills.

“The skill required to make conversion into agriculture is not that high, so we can get a lot of our youths who are unemployed engaged through agriculture”, he said.

Princewill said his administration would assist the business community through removal of multiple taxes so that they could employ youths.

“The best way to create jobs is using the small to medium-scale enterprises. The best way to deal with it is to address the issues that concern them.

“We need to address the problems and concerns of the business community; government should not be the largest employer of labour.

“The largest employer of labour should be small and medium- scale enterprises.

“We need to generate jobs from small to medium scale enterprises and the only way we can do that is if we can address their concerns”, he said.

Princewill promised that his administration would use infrastructure to create jobs, revive moribund industries and expand capacities in the ports to engage the youths.

On why he left the PDP for the Labour Party, Princewill said Labour Party was the only party with ideology in the country.

“I do not know any other party with a good and robust ideology like Labour Party”, he said. (NAN)
