Markovic Secures 3 Points for Liverpool at Sunderland

Lazar Markovic’s first Premier League goal was all Liverpool needed to stifle out a 1-0 win away at ten-man Sunderland on Saturday.

Markovic placed the ‘Reds’ in the lead nine minutes after kickoff, pouncing on a loose Fabio Borini ball to squeeze home from close range.

Markovic then came close to doubling Liverpool’s advantage on the half hour mark but his sensational long range volley came off the underside of the crossbar.

Sunderland’s Liam Bridcutt received his marching order just four minutes after the restart for a second yellow card after blocking Emre Can.

Adam Johnson’s long range effort crashed against the crossbar in the 52nd minute as the ‘Black Cats’ stepped up their search for an equaliser.

Liverpool held on to three points to maintain their battle for top four finish.
