Hull 0-3 Newcastle: Ameobi Scores in 1st Win Under Carver

Sammy Ameobi scored his second goal of the season to help Newcastle claim a comfortable 3-0 win at Hull City.

Remy Cabella opened his goal-scoring account for the season when he slotted in Newcastle’s first from 20 yards to ensure the Magpies take the lead into the break.

Hull’s Egyptian winger Ahmed Elmohamady had the ball in the net using his fist in first half injury time, but his celebration was cut short by referee Phil Dowd.

Ameobi drilled an absolute belter into the far corner before Yoan Gouffran’s shot wrong-footed goalkeeper Alan McGregor after taking a deflection off Elmohamady’s body.

Hull have won just two of their last 13 Premier League games and are down in the relegation zone with 19 points from 23 games.

The win was ‘Magpies’ boss John Carver’s first since Alan Pardew’s departure to Crystal Palace and they are rest assured of some few hours berth in the top half of the table.

Steve Bruce made four changes to his side, bringing on Nikica Jalavic, Abel Hernandez, Gaston Ramires and Andrew Robertson, while Mike Williamson and Ameobi replaced Paul Dummet and Gouffran from the side that lost to Southampton last time out.

Hull never looked like mounting a fight and often lacked belief and resolve. Newcastle on their own part made the most of their chances and produced two stunning strikes to plant a smile on owner Mike Ashley’s face.

Moussa Sissoko sent his low shot from 20 yards just wide within 5 minutes of kickoff and Hull’s Michael Dawson threw away a good opportunity a couple of minutes later, as his glancing header from inside the box off an in swinging free-kick went just wide.

Elmohamady dribbled past Ameobi and sent a delightful cross into the area from the right, only for a Curtis Davies downward header to be halted on the line by Fabricio Coloccini and hacked clear by the visitors’ goalkeeper.

Momentum dampened after half an hour but Newcastle continued to push for an opener, which came on 40 minutes. Frenchman Cabella dispossessed Robertson, drove towards the goal area and then smashed a left-footed shot into the bottom corner from 20 yards.

Elmohamady’s goal in first half injury time was rightly canceled for a handball, leaving Hull in need of an inspiration in the second period.

But it was Newcastle who stunned the KC Stadium crowd again within four minutes of restart after receiving a Jack Colback pass on the left; the Nigerian drilled home a powerful shot to double his side’s advantage.

The host almost responded immediately but Vurnon Anita was quick to clear off the line Coloccini’s bizarre clearance, which was beyond goalkeeper Tim Krul and headed for his own goal.

McGregor brilliantly parried Ayoze Perez’s flicked ball to keep Hull’s rampaging attack in check.

Four minutes after an hour, Krul kept out Ramirez’s shot and Jelevic was unable to turn the loose ball into the net from few yards out.

Newcastle continued passing up the ball high inside their opponents’ half and struck a final chord in what was a one-sided second half, with substitute Gouffran’s 77th-minute goal.
