Ex-Nigeria Goalkeeper Agbonavbare Dies After Long Battle With Cancer

Ex-Nigeria international goalkeeper Wilfred Agbonavbare has lost his long battle with cancer.

Agbonavbare died on Tuesday morning at the age of 48 in Alcala de Henares, Madrid. He spent almost five months in a Tampa Florida hospital before relocating to Spain.

The former youth international goalkeeper won 15 international caps for Nigeria and was part of the then Green Eagles team which won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations title in Tunisia and also represented the country at the Fifa World Cup in USA months later.

He featured for Spanish sides Rayo Vallecano between 1990 and 1996 and Ecija between 1996-1997.
