Samuel Eto’O has joined Italian Serie A side Sampdoria from Everton.
The Cameroonian striker, 33, passed his medical on Sunday before finalising transfer formalities on a deal expected to keep him at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris until 2018.
Eto’O scored four goals in 20 appearances for the ‘Toffees’ after arriving on a free transfer in 2013.
“I’ve been blessed to spend these past few months with you,” the four-time African Footballer of the Year wrote in his farewell message on Instagram. “It’s time for me to leave, but wherever I go, I will bring with me all the memories we’ve built together.”
Eto’O scored 12 goals in 35 appearances for Chelsea last season after joining from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.
He returns for a second spell with an Italian team having spent two years with Inter Milan- where he won his third Champions League winner’s medal.
Sampdoria are fifth in the Serie A table, and trail leaders Juventus by 15 points.
