About 30 persons have been killed in Taraba State following an attack by Fulani gunmen on Nwonko village in Wukari Local Government Area of the state on Thursday.

The attack, which started in the early hours of the day, lasted for a couple of hours and resulted in the destruction of houses as well as farm produce.

The attack was confirmed by the member, representing Wukari constituency in the state’s House of Assembly, Daniel Ishaya Gani, who said most of the deceased were women and children.

According to Gani, who expressed regret that the killings are still going on across the state, the villagers mistook the attackers for Boko Haram insurgents due to their numbers.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), John Kwaji also confirmed the attack. He noted that the crisis was between the Fulani herdsmen and the Jukuns, adding that nine corpses had been recovered so far and several houses burnt.
