Men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Gombe State have foiled the alleged diversion of relief materials meant for displaced persons in Taraba State.

This was disclosed to journalists in Gombe State by State Corps’ Commandant, Shem Obafaiye, who recently took over leadership of the command.

“I received intelligence report about their activities and directed my men to swing into action immediately. My men were on ground when they were loading,” Obafaiye said.

“After loading, the first vehicle waited somewhere for the second one to load and they both moved to a private store located at Nassarawo area of Gombe, where they usually drop such relief materials. At the point of offloading, my men apprehended them.”

The NSCDC boss said that the state government and all relevant agencies have been informed about the development and “private store has been taken over by men of the Civil Defense Corps.”

“The private store has been sealed up and our men are guarding the place while the owner of the warehouse is in our custody. The drivers of the trucks are as well in our custody,” Obafaiye assured.

He wondered why the trucks which were carrying the waybill for Taraba State would dispense the goods they are carrying at a private store in Gombe. He assured that the corps would continue to be vigilant and alive to its responsibilities.

  1. You can see how wicked and greedy criminals sabotage government’s efforts in the provision of social services, just as they did until recently in the distribution of fertilizers. Why are our people so heartless? Don’t be surprised that they will go scot free. In a soceity where there is no desire to punish criminals, crimes flourish.
