Mancini- Inter Can Recover from Roma Defeat

Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini has admit “there is a lot of work to be done” if they are to return to the Uefa Champions League next season.

The ‘Nerazzuri’ suffered their first defeat under the former Manchester City and Galatasaray boss on Sunday, a 4-2 loss to Roma at the Olympic Stadium. It was their fourth league loss this season, which puts them six points behind third-placed Genoa who presently occupy the last Champions League qualifying spot.

“I don’t want to be critical because I know there is a lot of work to be done. We have to continue to work as a defeat doesn’t change anything,” said Mancini, who replaced Walter Mazzari during last month’s international break.

“We will try to do the best we can in the next few months. Our aim is to qualify for the Champions League and there are two paths to achieve that.”

Inter have qualified for the last 32 of the Uefa Europa League and could guarantee qualification for Europe’s foremost club competition next season by going on to win the second-tier championship.

But climbing up the Italian Serie A table, where they are presently ranked 11th is of utmost importance for Mancini.

“Fortunately, we can recover points in the league,” he said. “There are many games left to play. The fact is that we have a team built to play in a certain way and if we want to change that, we have to do our best this month.”

Inter will entertain Udinese on Sunday.
