Enyeama, Toure, Aubameyang Make Three-Man Shortlist for Caf Award

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced its three-man shortlist for the Player of the Year award.

Gabon and Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nigeria and LOSC Lille goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama and Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure, who plies his trade with English Premier League champions Manchester City, are the three final nominees for the annual accolade.

Ghana striker Asamoah Gyang and Nigeria winger Ahmed Musa failed to make the final cut following votes by Head Coaches or Technical Directors of the National Associations affiliated to CAF. The winner of the award will be announced on January 8 at the Glo-Caf Awards Gala in Lagos, Nigeria.

Yaya Toure is attempting to win the continental prize for a fourth time in quick successions after claiming it in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons duo of Desire Oparanozie (Guingamp) and Asisat Oshoala (Rivers Angel) are in contention for the Women’s Player of the Year award, both facing stern competition from Annette Ngo Ndom (Cameroon and Amazon Grimstad).

Oshoala is also in contention for the Women’s Youth Player of the Year award, but must beat club and national team-mate Sunday Uchechi and Fabrice Ondoa of Cameroon and Barcelona.

Nigeria is in contention for the National Team of the Year (men’s and women’s) award.

The three-man shortlist for the Best Player Based in Africa award has also been revealed as well as several other final nominations. Click here to view them…
