2015 Elections: Atiku May Stun APC Leaders And Defeat Party Favourite, Buhari In Presidential Primaries

Atiku Abubakar

There are indications that the All Progressives Congress (APC) may end up using a consensus candidate as there are increasing fears that former vice president Atiku Abubakar may win the party’s primaries slated for December 10. The leaders of the party are believed to be in support of Former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

It is believed that the 14 states controlled by APC governors may have clearly aligned depending on the disposition of the governors in those states, Thisday suggests. However, the 22 other non-APC states are expected to vote depending on how each of the aspirants are able to secure their support. Former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari may therefore lose the party’s primaries to Atiku, who has gone round almost all the states of the federation to make a case for himself with the delegates. The two other aspirants, Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso and Publisher Sam Nda-Isaiah may also affect Buhari’s chances, as Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Ondo, Ekiti, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, Adamawa, Katsina, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kebbi, Kogi, Niger, Plateau and Benue are all states where each delegate vote counts. At the other states controlled by the APC, it is believed that the governor may influence who delegates vote.

According to Thisday, the APC leadership is said to be rooting for Buhari as its candidate, consensus being the only way a majority of those who make up the leadership believe guarantees his candidacy. Atiku on the other hand is banking on his power of mobilisation and poaching of delegates; more reason why he insisted on party primaries while several top members of the party were pushing consensus candidacy. He is said to have spent the last one month meeting with delegates across the federation and had reportedly visited at least 27 states in all.

While the leadership of the APC is believed to be in support of Buhari, he may lose the primaries to Atiku, who, though lacks their support and that of many of the governors, has put a lot of work into his campaign. He also has a lot of experience; unfortunately, he does not seem to have the support of the APC leadership and a majority of the governors.

Expected at the national convention are about 10,000 delegates from across the country.

The party is said to still be contemplating on where to use for the convention, with Edo and Lagos States being considered.

  1. APC should not bring their convention, thuggery and madness to Edo State. Tinubu should take it to his fiefdom or that of his collaboratos. Edo where the BDCC movement of 2002 gave impetus to today’s south/south presidency does not deserve that dark toga of betrayal. We know that the zombie we have here can’t comprehend such fine things.

  2. I beg APc, for God’s sake take your convention to somewhere else. For crying out loud, why Edo State? No doubt APC govn is doing well we like him but I APC in the Federal level. Tinubu is a king of thug, a tout, he should host them in Lagos where he has good number of celebrated touts.

  3. Atiku Abubakar is clearly better prepared than other APC aspirants and other candidates vying for the presidency because of his clear and well articulated vision and objectives for Nigeria and Nigerians.
    Support CHANGE…Support Atiku2015..
    #ANigeriaForAll.

  4. That is exactly the fools that claim that they are coming to take over and make thngs work and better for Nigeria.worster than anything.we know them.equity and justice, truth and fair play are no where to be found in APC.WOE unto you .boko boko.

  5. Well, when it comes to integrity, i think Buhari is more credible than Atiku or any other candidate, let it also be known that people prefer APC because of who they are flagging which is Buhari, if otherwise, you are reducing your chances and may make you wait till another 4years of this administration of looters and corrupt government.

  6. The record of General Buhari (rtd) whilst he was the president of Nigeria suggests that he is well placed to bring corruption to an end in Nigeria. Corruption is the cancer that’s ruining our society for many years now. We need electricity 24/7, jobs, clean water, security, etc in Nigeria. I believe Buhari is the right man to meet these needs!

  7. Buhari is the man any attempt to bringg Atiku APC win loose o. Atiku is a corrupt man. Our national stadium, PTDF and many more. GMB or APC win not succeed. For God sake we need change not Atiku cos he can bribe all the delegates because he has stolen a lot from Nigerians. APC leader open forum to determine btw BUhari and Atiku who will lead. Just for a test.

  8. APC wahala don start again. If dem give Ati-Ole, Buhari go comot go form im party. If Buhari get d ticket, then na cry him go cry again. Anywhere APC choose to follow- na defeat yakata dey wait for dem.

  9. Buhari is the only hope we are waiting for. Pick any other you lose the election. I pity a lot of Nigerians on this social medium who are suppose to bury tribal leanings. If my sibling is not going to make this country work I will not vote for him. Many of you people are poor and from poverty ridden homes but you still support a system that will keep you in the valley bcos tribal considerations. Did we Yorubas not realize how Obasanjo presidency brought us backward? Jonathan is trying for the south south and Iove him for that bcos the Nigera State impoverish them. But now we need a cleaner man in Buhari to keep those people that even impoverished niger delta at bay or bush. We all know that Tinubu or Atiku can never do the job. Pls for once let unite and build Nigeria by removing sentiments. I know majority of northern elites will never vote him but their farm and business is Nigeria and he will stop the milking.
