The Ivory Coast international, 31, tweeted for the first time on Monday after a five month absence following City’s victory in Sunday’s Manchester Derby.

Kick It Out said it had “received complaints” about two tweets of a “racist nature” and told the police.

“Yaya Toure has been on Twitter for a matter of hours and he has already received abuse of an appalling nature,” a spokesperson of the group is quoted as saying on the BBC Sport.

“We are disturbed by the fact that someone can be treated this way.

“It makes footballers start to question why they should use these platforms.

“We will offer Yaya Toure our full support.”

Toure, who has been Caf Player of the Year for the past three years, was also the target of a racist chant at CSKA’s Khimki Arena last season.
