Sven-Goran Eriksson Named Shanghai SIPG Coach

Former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has been unveiled by Shanghai SIPG as their new coach.

The Swede, 66, who left his previous role as coach of another Chinese top-flight outfit Guangzhou R&F last week, was presented by officials at the Shanghai Super League club on Tuesday.

“I am very happy and very proud that it is finally official that we are here and I am going to be the head coach of this club,” Eriksson told a news conference. “I am looking forward to start work and looking forward to a new challenge.”

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City goalkeeper Ian Walker is among Eriksson’s coaching staff at Shanghai SIPG. Walker has been goalkeeping coach at the club since January following a spell at neighbouring outfit Shanghai Shenhua.

Eriksson helped Guangzhou R&F clinch a slot in the AFC Champions League following a third-place finish in the CSL- the highest attended football league in Asia- this season

He becomes the seventh manager at Shanghai SIPG- a club founded eighth years ago.
