Obasanjo Receives PVC, Urges Nigerians To Guard Card Jealously

OBJFormer President Olusegun Obasanjo was on Thursday presented with his Permanent Voter Card at his Oke-Mosan presidential hilltop residence in Abeokuta by the Ogun State Residential Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Sam Olumekun.

The former president, who promised to guard his own PVC jealously, advised Nigerians to also do same.

While commending the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for doing a good job, he posed some questions to the commission.

“It is a great job you have been doing. If somebody loses his card, what does he do? I won’t lose mine but for others”, he asked.

Responding, Olumekun allayed the ex-president’s concerns, saying, “We have a data bank and all we will do is to produce another voter card”.

Mr. Obasanjo urged the citizens to “guard this card as you would your money. If you make it a habit of losing your card, it may get to a point that producing another for you would be difficult”.

He also urged the commission to redouble its efforts at addressing the complaints that trailed the recent PVC and continuous voter registration exercise to avoid disenfranchising eligible voters ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

He said, “I think we are moving. I believe that our progress would be made if we can have one card so that wherever we are, we can do anything we want to do.

“People have genuinely complained but I believe we can still make all those complaining to get their cards.

“Whatsoever correction that needs to be done should be done. If we do not do that, many people will be disenfranchised and it would undermine our democratic process”.
