Giwa-Nasarawa Ends in Stalemate as Confed Cup Race Continues

The much disputed Glo Premier League clash between Giwa FC and Nasarawa United ended in a stalemate in Abuja on Friday.

Both sides, locked in a tight race for final qualification spot for the Caf Confederation Cup, fired blank during the Match Day 35 contest which had been rescheduled thrice.

Nasarawa now have 58 points, Giwa 57, both from 37 matches.

On the final day of the season, Nasarawa host rivals and third-placed Warri Wolves, while Giwa area away to already-relegated Nembe City. Interestingly, Wolves could even overtake Enyimba for a Caf Champions League League place if they win at Nasarawa and Enyimba lose to defending/champions elect Kano Pillars in Aba.

At the Fifa Goal Project on Friday, both teams struggled for three points but to no avail. Giwa ended the first half with ten men after full-back Chris Madaki got his marching order for a second bookable offence after half an hour.

Giwa defied the odds in the second half and pressed for a match-winning goal but were denied by goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye and the resolute visitors’ defence.
