My Fate As Speaker Lies With God And Reps, Not The PDP

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal has said his fate as the number four citizen of Nigeria lies only in the hands of God and the honourable members of the House, and not on the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

Tambuwal has endured series of attacks following his defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC), with controversy over his seat on the lower house’s highest stool becoming a widely contested subject matter.

While several opinions have claimed his defection from the PDP makes it impossible for him to continue as Speaker, others argue that the 1999 Constitution was clear enough on the issue and there should therefore be no contest for the Speaker’s seat.

Tambuwal, who attended the North-west Zonal Executive Committee meeting of the APC in Kaduna yesterday, however said the plot of the PDP against him does not bother him and he remained unruffled.

Speaking with newsmen after the APC meeting attended by a presidential aspirant of the party, Maj-General Muhammadu Buhari, Deputy Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, and APC National Vice Chairman (North-West), Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir, among others, Tambuwal said his fate in the house was in the hands of God and the lawmakers.

“Yes, I am here for the first time to attend the zonal meeting of the North-west zone of APC, my political party. As for my fate in the National Assembly and Speaker of House of Representatives, it is in the hands of God and members of the house,” he said.

The Speaker said majority of Nigerians support him.

He however declined comments on his rumoured ambition to contest for the Sokoto State governorship race in 2015, which many said informed his defection from the PDP.
