Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm fractured his ankle in training on Tuesday and faces three-month injury layoff, his club has announced.
The 31-year-old midfielder was stretchered off on a golf cart following the training ground accident. The club said Lahm did not collide with any player.
Bayern tweeted: “Big blow for Philipp Lahm: The captain has suffered a fractured ankle. He needs operation and will be out for around three months!”
The Bavarians are undefeated this season and face Hoffenheim on Saturday. They then travel to England to play against Manchester City in the Champions League next week.
