Hope Akpan to Undergo Surgery, Out for Three Months

Hope Akpan is set for three months on the sidelines, his English club Reading FC have said.

Akpan, 23, dislocated his shoulder while on international duty with Nigeria in their penultimate 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying win in Congo last Saturday.

He landed heavily after an aerial contest with a Congolese player and was substituted early in the second half.

The Championship side announcedon Wednesday that the Super Eagles revelation “has seen a consultant in Berkshire and will undergo surgery next week.”

Akpan, who has started ten of the Royals’ 17 league games this season, recently made his 50th appearance for the club.

Holders Nigeria finished third in Group A with 8 points and, hence misses out on qualification for the 30th edition of the Afcon tournament scheduled for Equatorial Guinea from January 17 to February 8.
