Ghanaian Midfielder Asamoah Out of Afcon 2015 With Injury

Ghana international midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah is ruled out of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) through a knee injury.

Coach of Italian Serie A club Juventus, Massimiliano Allegri, announced on Saturday that the 25-year-old will be sidelined for three months- meaning new Ghana coach Avram Grant will have to do without him for the time-being.

Asamoah will undergo surgery on a cartilage problem in his left knee in the upcoming days in Barcelona.

“Asamoah will undergo an operation and will be out for around three months, but when surgery’s involved this can always change,” Allegri announced ahead of the Turin derby against Torino on Sunday.

He added: “I regret that I cannot use him but there is still (Patrice) Evra, (Simone) Padoin and (Federico) Mattiello.”

The Black Stars will be making their 19th Afcon appearance in Equatorial Guinea beginning January 17 through to February 8.

The West Africans claimed their fourth and last continental crown in Libya in 1982 and were losing-finalists to Egypt in 2010 in Angola.
