EPL Update: Burnley Clinch First Win, Man Utd Edge Palace

Burnley 1-0 Hull City

Burnley are off the mark as Ashley Barnes strike ended the Clarets wait for a first Premier League win.

The win was Sean Dyche’s men’s first since returning to the top flight, enough to ensure all 20-team in the English top-flight have now scored a goal this season.

Hull have now failed to score for a third consecutive game, which they finished with 10 men after captain Curtis Davies sustained a back injury and couldn’t continue, at whose point coach Steve Bruce had already made all three substitutions.

Striker Abel Hernandez came up with the Tigers’ best chance with a shot on the turn saved by Tom Heaton.

Manchester United 1-0 Crystal Palace

Juan Mata was the savior at Old Trafford as Louis van Gaal’s side edged a tight match against Crystal Palace.

The win- United’s first in four games- moved the Red Devils up to sixth, 13 points behind leaders Chelsea, who beat Liverpool 2-1 earlier in the day.

Both teams struggled to impact on scores in the first half, with United’s former stalwart Frazer Campbell lobbing an attempt over for the visitors following a defensive miss-up between make-shift centre-back Daley Blind and Northern Irish teenage prospect Patrick McNair.

But Mata broke the deadlock within four minutes of coming on for Adnan Januzaj in the 63rd minute, fading off goalkeeper Julian Speroni with a deflected shot from 22 yards following a link-up play with Angel Di Maria.

Southampton 2-0 Leicester City

Substitute Shane Long’s quick-fire brace late into the second half earned a vital three-point for second-placed Southampton against hard-fighting Leicester City.

Long placed the hosts in the ascendancy with a precise curled finish from 16 yards from Graziano Pelle’s lay-off in the 75th minute.

The Republic of Ireland international doubled the Saints’ lead five minutes later when he raced clear to beat Kasper Schmeichel and finish calmly.

West Ham United 0-0 Aston Villa

West Ham United climbed above Arsenal into fourth place after a battling stalemate at home to Aston Villa.
