The Nigerian Army has promoted three Captains to the rank of Major in recognition of their exploits in the battle against Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East.

Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen.Olajide Laleye announced this in Abuja, on Friday, while briefing newsmen on the activities lined up for the 2014 Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference, which will hold in Uyo, Akwa Ibom next month.

The gallant officers, according to Laleye are Captains IA Manga, AH Ali and Y Micah.

“It is my pleasure to announce the elevation from the rank of Captain to Major of three brave officers who have shown aggressive posture and uncommon gallantry in the face of the enemy particularly in the counter-insurgency operations in the North-East,” he said.

Commenting on the State of Emergency, which expired at 12 midnight on Thursday, and is yet to get lawmakers’ approval for an extension, Laleye said it was undergoing due process.

“It is a political issue in which the Nigerian Army or the Armed Forces will only play its part.

“We are under directives, whatever directives that come from the civil authority they will be obeyed by the Nigerian Army,” he said, promising Nigerians however, that the army would not leave any territory of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the hands of terrorists.

Laleye also spoke about the upcoming 2014 COAS conference. He said that it will hold from Dec. 1 to Dec. 6, and will give the Army leadership to reassess its preparedness to discharge its constitutional roles.
