NFF Supremo Hails Devoted Super Eagles

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick has lauded the Super Eagles for their “fighting spirit” and dedication to serve after their Afcon qualifying win over Congo in Point Noire on Saturday.

Second-half goals by Ikechukwu Uche and Aaron Samuel kept Nigeria’s hopes of defending their Afcon title in Equatorial Guinea come 2015 alive, as the second-placed Eagles now need a win over South Africa in Uyo on Wednesday to seal that fate.

“I cannot commend you enough for making Nigeria proud, through your fighting spirit and the patriotic favour with which you approached the game,” the NFF chief addressed the players inside the chartered Discovery Airline aircraft on the way back home.

“It was a difficult environment in its entirety but you were not deterred, and that must be our guiding philosophy from now on.”

Pinnick also ordered immediate and special treatment for Azubuike Egwuekwe and Hope Akpan, who were injured during the game.

Reading FC’s Akpan twisted his left arm, while Warri Wolves defender Egwuekwe sustained a cut just above the left eye.

As the team landed in Uyo, Akpan was conveyed in a special ambulance to the Government House clinic for another x-ray, while the team’s doctor, Ibrahim Gyaran, was told to ensure Egquekwe got all necessary treatment to be available for Wednesday cracker.
