Following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on whose platform he was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has redeployed security details comprising policemen attached to Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal.
There were speculations on Thursday that policemen and Department of State Security Services (SSS) operatives attached to the speaker, who is the number four citizen, for his personal security, had been withdrawn. It was not clear who ordered the withdrawal as none of them reported to their duty posts at the speaker’s residence this morning.
But the picture became clearer as the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Emmanuel Ojukwu, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, hinged the withdrawal of Tambuwal’s police details on Section 68(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
The statement reads, “In view of the recent defection by the Right Hon. Aminu Waziri Tanbuwal, CFR, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, from the People Democratic Party to the All Progressive Congress and having regard to the clear provision of section 68(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, the Nigeria Police Force, has redeployed its personnel attached to his office”.
Tambuwal is yet to react to the withdrawal of his security details at the time of publishing this report.
Quite interesting. Tambuwal should just do the needful or I foresee him being a factional Speaker just like Amechi of the defunct governors Forum.
Section 68(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended provided a clause to this section that the IG is operating on that “provided that his (Tambuwa) membership of the latter (APC) political party is not as a result of a division in the political party of which he was previously a member(PDP) ” and it is obvious that there is division in PDP. On this note, Tambuwa did not contravene the constitution and he can never resign from being Speaker of the house
If Tambuwal refuse to resign according to 1999 constitution as amended,he should be impeached because there is nothing like disagreement in PDP for now!Long live Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, long live his office, amen!
He we not resign but if it anoda party like pdp dat did de whole would not hear a word again cos apc would av use Deir noise to cos uproar n fument trouble
Whatever his reaction may be, he has stepped on the tiger’s tail and the truth is that time has run out for him, as it does for every two timing rabbit running with the hare and hunting with the hounds. He should carry his cross bravely as all the noise by hungry SANs will not save him.
