PDP Youth Leader Urges Students To Join Politics

The national youth leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdulahi Maibasira has called on students who have clocked 18 to start taking part in partisan politics.

Maibasira said this while receiving the leadership of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) in his office.

While expressing support for students who wish to go into politics – provided they will ensure it does not affect their studies, the PDP youth leader apologised to the polytechnic students over the strike which lasted several months, saying that it was never the president’s wish to see the schools closed.

“It was not the wish of the president and the PDP for the schools to be closed, our doors are open to issues of youth and students,” stated Maibasira.

NAPS national president Sunday Ogbonnaya however called on President Goodluck Jonathan to resolve the HND/Bachelor’s degree dichotomy, saying it would encourage members of the association to support the president’s re-election bid.

He also asked that polytechnic, monotechnics and colleges of education graduates who graduate with distinction, enjoy government scholarships like their university counterparts.

“President Jonathan has distinguished himself in the service to the nation, ending the discrimination will give us more confidence to throw our weight behind him,” Ogbonnaya said.
