Nembe Abandon League Match Again Risk Further Sanctions

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club Nembe City face further sanctions by the League Management Company (LMC) after abandoning a second home game in as many weeks on Thursday.

Fresh from escaping a home stadium ban to having to play their home matches before an empty home ground in Omoku, City again abandoned Thursday’s rescheduled Glo Premier League Match Day 31 match at home to Gombe United.

The hosts held up play on 89 minutes after referee Ibrahim Umar awarded a late penalty to the visitors for a handball in the Nembe goal area with scores tied at 2-goal apiece.

Nembe City players protested the centre referee’s decision and eventually abandoned the match. Umar waited for 10 minutes for the home team to come out and finish off the game to no avail, eventually calling off the contest.

The Week 31 clash was initially scheduled for Wednesday, October 8, but was postponed due to a heavy downpour.

Nembe are rock-bottom of the 20-team league standings with 25 points from a possible 91 and -29 goals.
