Makarfi Submits Senatorial Form, Denies Plan To Dump PDP For APC

sen-ahmed-makarfiA former Governor of Kaduna State now representing Kaduna North Senatorial District, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, has denied speculations that he is planning to dump the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

Makarfi, who denied the rumor gaining grounds among politicians in the state, re-affirmed his loyalty to the PDP while submitting his nomination form to re-contest 2015 senatorial election in Kaduna yesterday.

The senator, who was accompanied by several party supporters to Kaduna State secretariat of the PDP, said: “I am among the founding-fathers of the PDP and I have no intention to dump the party for any emerging political party”.

Speaking with journalists before he submitted his nomination form to the party chairman, Chief Abubakar Gaiya Haruna, Makarfi and other party stalwarts, who stormed the secretariat, alongside his co-ordinators and other associates, said: “I am here to submit my form having filled it, and I don’t believe in making noise and talking. It is not in party office that one should show his or her strength; it is in the ballot box that we should show that we have people.

“I am here not to buy but to submit it. We will do all our best to ensure victory for our party; I will run again in our party for the Kaduna North Senatorial District. We should work together; I am a founding-member of PDP and will remain here and have no intension to dump the party”.

Responding to questions on whether the APC is a threat to the ruling PDP, Makarfi, who was the first PDP senatorial aspirant in the state to submit the nomination form, stressed: “It depends on what you mean by threat; it is not a one-man party and I consider all parties contesting against PDP as threats. It is a threat that we should do more to win and ensure victory”.
