Glo Premier League: Pillars On Course for Third Straight Title

Defending champions Kano Pillars retained their top-of-the-table berth after edging Crown FC 3-2 at home on Wednesday.

Isaac Loute opened scoring for the Kano State Government-owned side on 14 minutes and Adamu Hassan doubled the lead in the 44th minute.

Having gone into the break trailing 2-0, the Ogbomoso-based visitors pulled a goal back three minutes after the restart through Onyekachi Okafor, from Ike Chukwujekwu’s assist.

Azeez Shobowale restored Pillars’ two-goal cushion in the 72nd minute. Nedum Francis reduced Crown’s goal arrears two minutes later.

Pillars, who are on course for a third straight Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title, have now earned 53 points.

There were also home wins for Dolphins, Sunshine Stars, Enugu Rangers and Abia Warriors.

Samuel Agba scored twice in the ‘Flying Antelopes’s’ 2-1 win over Bayelsa United. Rangers, unbeaten in six league games, moved up to ninth position on the table with 45 points.

Adegoke grabbed Bayelsa’s only goal via a superb free-kick in the 58th minute.

Warri Wolves moved second after their 2-0 home win over Akwa United. Wolves forward Abu Azeez was sent off in the 55th minute following a second bookable offence.

Wolves have 49 points, four points behind leaders Kano Pillars.

Enyimba came back from two goals down to beat Sharks 5-2 in Aba. Mfon Udoh bagged a brace for the ‘Peoples Elephant’ to join the 14-goal club at the summit of the NPFL goalscorers’ chart.

Nasarawa United suffered a 3-1 setback at El kanemi Warriors. Malik Demba netted a brace for El-kanemi while Ugo Leonard grabbed Nasarawa United’s only goal of the match.

Thursday’s rescheduled fixture between Nembe City and Gombe United was aborted on 89th minute with scores level at 2-2 after a Nembe City player was adjudged to have handled the ball in his goal area.

The game was initially postponed due to a heavy downpour in Omoku ten minutes after kick-off on Wednesday.
