Falcons Coach Okon Says Zambia are No Push-Over

Coach Edwin Okon says Nigeria will treat their second round clash with debutantes Zambia with urgency as they bid to reclaim the African Women’s Championship crown in Namibia.

The six-time winners got off to an encouraging start, outlasting Ivory Coast in a six-goal contest 4-2 and could become the first team to book their semi-final ticket if they win the She-polopolo at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek.

The Super Falcons are clear favourite to take the Match Day two contest judging by their experience as regular competitors in the championship and coming up against a side only making their debut appearance in Namibia. But coach Okon does not foresee an easy game.

“They (Zambia) will be no pushovers and we won’t underrate them. The work will be done on the pitch and we are ready to work for our money,” he is quoted as saying on Cafonline.com.

“We are here to reclaim the trophy. A champion is always a champion and we are only praying for mother luck.”

Following an unconvincing performance in their opening win over Ivory Coast, Okon says the Falcons have made amends to every loophole in their game.

“We have been working on our mistakes to score from the chances we create. We are sure we will overcome that aspect in our next game against Zambia,” Okon added.

The match against Nigeria comes on the back of an opening 2-0 loss to hosts Namibia, but Zambia right-back Emelda Musonda says they are ready to spring up surprise.

“We are looking forward to the game with Nigeria and morale in our camp is very high. We have to be focused on the pitch and will put in a lot to get a win,” she said.
