Anthony Ujah Strike Sinks Bremen

Anthony Ujah’s solitary strike secured all three points for German Bundesliga side FC Cologne away to winless Werder Bremen on Friday.

The Nigeria international, 24, came off the bench to make an immediate impact at the Weserstadion and pile further pressure on Bremen coach Robin Dutt, who is yet to record a win after nine rounds of league matches.

Ujah came on for midfielder Daniel Halfar on 58 minutes, needing just a minute to bury the ball inside the net. He threaded a shot through the legs of goalkeeper Rafael Wolf after Slovak Dusan Svento had collected a rebound of his own first shot, raced to the byline to pull the ball back to the ex-Mainz marksman.

The goal was Ujah’s second of the league season, sufficient enough to send the ‘Billy Goats’ into the top half of the table ahead of the weekend’s games and leave Bremen rooted to the bottom of the table with four points.

Bremen’s Izet Hajrovic shot rebounded off the woodwork as the visitors held on to three points.
