The Acting Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, on Monday reconstituted the Force Gender Unit, FGU, to help effectively address cases of violence against women and children in the country.
The Unit, according to the acting IGP, is to be headed by a Force Gender Adviser in the person of CSP Olabisi Kolawale.
The newly reconstituted police gender is charged with the responsibility of implementing a robust capacity building plan for officers in gender related issues.
The FGU is also expected to ensure the inclusion of gender training in Nigeria Police curriculum at all levels and see to the establishment of Gender Desk officers in Police formations nationwide.
It will also ensure the enhancement of the already existing collaboration with other stakeholders in the area of gender equality.
