ACF Hails FG On Ebola, Calls For Similar Commitment In Fight Against Insurgency

ACF-chairmam-Ibrahim CoomasieThe pan-northern socio-political organization, the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, has commended the Federal Government on its feat in containing the spread of the deadly Ebola virus, which earned the country accolades from the World Health Organisation.

The Forum, however, urged the Federal Government and Nigerians to commit such zeal and determination with which the virus was stopped, to put an end to the ravaging insurgency in the Northeastern part of Nigeria.

Speaking through its National Publicity Secretary, Muhammed Ibrahim in a statement in Kaduna State on Wednesday, ACF said it received with great relief the news that Nigeria has been certified Ebola free by the WHO.

The statement read in part: “The ACF received with great relief the news that the WHO has certified Nigeria free of the deadly Ebola virus that found its way into the country through one Liberian called Dr. Sawyer who had the Ebola disease and died in Lagos.

“The virus created a threatening scenario to the Nation. However, with the efforts of the Lagos state government, prompt and total support of the Federal Government and concurrent actions of states government, health institutions and agencies, the threat posed by the Ebola virus was effectively contained.

“ACF reiterates its call on Government and all Nigerians to demonstrate similar commitment and spirit towards the security challenges facing the country especially the insurgency in the North-East region in order to restore peace and normalcy in the affected states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa”.
