2015: North Has The Number To Make Or Mar The Future Of Nigeria – Shettima

Kashim-ShettimaGovernor Kashim Shettima of Borno State has called on people of the North to irrespective of their religion and ethnicity, summon courage and come together to salvage the country, as Nigerians go into another round of election next year.

This is just as he highlighted the numerical strength of the North, which he said puts the region in a position to either make or mar the future of Nigeria.

He made this call weekend in Kaduna, while speaking on behalf of other All Progressives Congress (APC) governors at the party’s Northern Stakeholders’ interactive meeting.

According to Shettima, the North in the best of times was the least in all indices of economic development, let alone now that insurgency is ravaging some parts of it, saying that “we are now the poorest of the earth. Poverty has no religion, it has no ethnicity, therefore, we must reach out to other parts of the country, so that by 2015, other Nigerians can join forces with us to salvage the country.

“We must not fight over political offices within the party. We must not allow our aspirations as individuals to jeopardize our collective resolve to salvage the country. We have the number and we are in the position to make or mar the future of the generation yet unborn in this country.

“The north is in shambles. Citizens have become refugees in their country. There is need to produce the next President from the north. But this is not without challenges, requiring vigilance and courage. There is need to bury our differences and become united to confront the challenges ahead. If we can summon courage to come together irrespective of our religious and ethnic differences, we are poised to forming the next government, come 2015”, he said.

  1. When those who should know better bring in the ‘South and North’ dimension into politics, they break my heart. Where is the one nation, one Nigeria that General Gowon and millions of Nigerians fought for? Hear this State Governor talking as if the North is separate from the rest of Nigeria! The issues raised by him affect all Nigerians – not just the North. The solutions we should be talking about are the solutions for the entire country not for the North or South. When people talk the way this governor talks, they imply that Nigeria is divided. They are saying Nigeria is not one nation! What the younger generation of Nigeria want to hear are solutions to the problems that are ruining our nation not the annoying North or South politics that the dead woods have been playing since the independent of Nigeria. The younger generation would like the politics of bitterness practiced by the older generation buried once and forever! One nation, one Nigeria!

  2. Governor Kashim, you must know that we in the north are no longer fools you make comments of coming togather and bla bla bla, do you forget that uptil now tomorrow you the muslems calls us the Christians (ARNA) what does that mean and we both live in the north, you. Muslems have never for once surppoted a christian candidate in what so ever position or office and yet you idiots wants us to unit and vote out the only christian president who is our brother in christ? Never no matter how bad is Jonathan he is still better than some one who will call me ARNE after I vote for him, infact if for example Nigeria is going to split up then some of us christians in the north will never be togather with people who discriminate us every day, are you mad? To come out now and telling us to join you in fighting our brother in christ (GEJ)? Never you will all be surprised. But if you want us Christians and Muslems in north to come togather then you must agree with the followings: 1 stop discriminating us calling us arna 2 you must allow christians and muslems to marry each other in regardless of religion or ethnicity differences, 3. You must allow churches to be build on every land that the church or a member can afford to buy in regardless of the street, the area or the environment as mosque are also build every where in regardless of the above options and allow the Christianity practicers to attain their church services freely without any fear of intruding, interruptions or disturbance by any muslem member, organization or group. Then I tell you not only the north but the entire country will be at peace, united, and strong enought to dicides for itself on what so ever the situation and resolve it ammicably. Otherwise forget it all you’re saying will not and will never happen, we were not togather and never will.
