Stop Attacking My Administration For Popularity, Orji Warns Opposition Parties

Published

Theodore-OrjiThe Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji, has asked opposition political parties in the state to stop seeking cheap popularity by attacking his administration, describing such posturing as defeatist and wishful thinking.

The governor was reacting to recent media remarks credited to the National Publicity Secretary of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Ogbuehi Dike, where the party criticised the state government over some development projects.

In response, Governor Orji, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Ajunwa, described the UPP as a moribund and ghost political party desperately looking for public attention.

He said, “UPP tops the list of dead parties in Abia State which should be ignored as the living has no business with the dead.”

The governor observed that “opposition political parties and political failures “in the state have resorted to unnecessary and destructive criticisms of his administration as “part of their belated strategies to gain cheap popularity ahead of the 2015 general polls.”

Mr. Orji, who described his critics as “political chaffs of no conceivable threat”, dismissed their renewed media attacks and propaganda against his administration as the “ranting of a drowning political desperado.”

The statement reads in part: “The attention of Abia State government has been drawn to the renewed media attack on his person and his people- oriented administration by some frustrated and inconsequential political failures whose only known way of gaining relevance is to attack the government in power.

“Government wishes to state that it would not be distracted by the antics of detractors who will never see the wave of transformation pervading the Abia landscape courtesy of Orji’s focused and purposeful leadership.

“Joining issues with political Lilliputs and incoherent detractors will only amount to dignifying their untenable fallacies, hence, the resolve of His Excellency to ignore them and remain focused on his transformation agenda which has since restored Abia on the path of greatness.

“It is only obvious that Abia has no worse enemy than any person or group under any guise which fails to acknowledge the widely applauded strides of Orji’s administration which has successfully laid a strong foundation for Abia’s development in all sectors.”

The governor also enjoined the people of the state to stay put with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party which he said is committed to the economic and infrastructural transformation of the state.

“PDP is the only party that has the meaningful agenda for the state, others are ghosts which are non- existent,” he said.

Recall that Buhari in his speech called for an end to the protest, adding that his government had already accepted and started implementing demands of the protesters.

He, however, failed to acknowledge the shooting of protesters by soldiers of the Nigerian Army at the Lekki Toll Gate on Tuesday night.
