Setif Beat Mazembe to Set Up Vita in Caf Champions League Final

Algerians club Entente Setif will join Congolese outfit AS Vita in the final of the 2014 Orange Caf Champions League.

ES Setif progressed to the 2014 final despite a 3-2 loss to another Congolese side TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi on Sunday.

Setif, who beat Nigerians Iwuanyanwu Nationale (now Heartland) 4-1 overall to win the 1988 final, advanced 4-4 on away goal advantage after their 2-1 win at home last weekend.

Both finalists are the first clubs in the 50-year history of the Caf Champions League to win semi-finals after taking 2-1 first-leg leads.

Vita, winners of the 1973 competition, won 2-1 at Tunisian club CS Sfaxien to advance 4-2 on aggregate after claiming the first leg by the same margin in Kinshasa last weekend

Abdelmalik Ziaya placed Setif ahead early into the clash at the Stade Mazembe. But the hosts pulled back through goals from Ghanaian Daniel Nii Adjei, Malian Salif Coulibaly and Congolese Jonathan Bolingi.

A 77th-minute goal by substitute Sofiane Younes kept the ‘Black Eagles’ in the championship as four-time champions Mazembe struggled to no avail for a crucial fourth goal.

Vita will hosts the first leg of the final between 24-26 October with the return match scheduled for a week later.

The African champion qualify for the 2014 Fifa Club World Cup in Morocco.
