PDP Salutes Scots On Referendum, Urges Unity Among Nigerians

Olisa_MetuhThe ruling Peoples Democratic Party has called on Nigerians to live in a united and peaceful nation just as it hailed the people of Scotland, who chose to preserve their more than 300 years union by voting to stay as part of the United Kingdom, irrespective of challenges of ethnic diversity.

National Publicity Secretary, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Friday, said the decision by the Scots has shown that citizens could indeed push through their resolve to live together and peacefully as one people with a common destiny despite their differences, perceived or real.

He said, “We might be different in our tongues, tribes and religious affiliations but, as one people, let us not dwell on these differences but rather magnify those things that bind us together so that we continue to live together in peace, love and unity.

“Nigerians yearn for a situation where they will no longer be defined by political, tribal, religious and sectional considerations but to see ourselves as a united people under one strong, virile and indivisible nation”.

Stating that the challenges facing the nation were “transitory and incapable of defeating our collective spirit”, the PDP spokesman called on Nigerians to ensure that their thoughts and actions are always guided by the national interest and values that unite and bind all citizens in love.

“It is incontrovertible that Nigeria remains stronger and more prosperous as one nation. In this regard, we call on all citizens to put the unity of the nation above every other personal and sectional interests in all their dealings and aspirations”, the statement said.

Metuh also charged all its elected and appointed officials at all levels across the country to redouble their efforts in the prudent handling of resources as encapsulated in its manifesto so that the people will not only continue to enjoy the benefits of having it in power but vote for it in the 2015 general election.
