Man Utd’s Herrera Out With a Fractured Rib

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera will be sidelined for an indefinite period with a fractured rib, manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed.

The summer signing from Athletic Bilbao sustained the injury during last weekend’s 2-1 win over West Ham. He was substituted in the 74th minute.

He becomes the tenth United player on the sidelines and joins the likes of Marouane Fellaini, Phil Jones and Chris Smallings; just to name a few.

The club have not placed any time frame on the 25-year-old Spaniard’s recovery, but says his progress will be monitored over the next few weeks.

“Ander Herrera sustained a fractured rib during the match against West Ham United on Saturday. The club will continue to monitor his progress over the next few weeks,” the club said in a statement.

The news comes as a huge setback for the Dutch boss, who already will be without the services of club captain Wayne Rooney throughout the month of October, following the England striker’s straight red against the Hammers.

A minor relieve at the moment is the return of defender Tyler Blackett from suspension for Sunday’s league game against Everton at Old Trafford.
