Borno Government Denies Bama Has Fallen To Boko Haram

Boko-Haram-ShekauThe Borno State Government has denied reports that Bama, the second biggest town in the state after Maiduguri, the state capital, has been fully taken over by Boko Haram insurgents.

The insurgents were said to have launched a full scale attack on the town Tuesday, after a daring attempt to overrun Bama the previous day was rebuffed by gallant troops.

The military, in response to the take-over, are said to have launched massive airstrikes on the insurgents, the bombardment, which is said to have continued late into Tuesday.

Dispelling media reports on the fight between Nigerian troops and the insurgents, the Borno State Government maintained that Bama has not fallen into the hands of terrorists and is not fully captured.

The State Government gave assurance that the military was currently battling to contain the situation and that the attacks were being repelled.

The latest onslaught on Bama is regarded in security circles as another attempt by the Boko Haram insurgents to add the region to its earlier taken territory like Gwoza town, which the sect has reportedly declared as part of an Islamic caliphate and hoisted its flag.
