Asari Dokubo Has No Links With Boko Haram – Ijaw Activist

0101asaridokuboAn Ijaw activist, Rosebella Jackson, has debunked allegations in some quarters linking the founder of the disbanded Niger Delta Peoples’ Volunteer Force, Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo, to a network of Islamic terrorist organizations, including the Boko Haram.

There have been speculations that Dokubo, a Muslim convert, was working for some Islamic fundamentalists and being used to spy on Christians as well as to leak information to them for co-ordinated violent attacks.

It was also alleged that Dokubo was converting willing Niger Deltans into Islam and sending them for training on suicide bombing and handling of weapons of mass destruction in Kuwait and other Islamic countries.

But the activist dismissed the allegations, describing them as the “figments of the imagination of Dokubo’s detractors”.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, Jackson said that it was a “smear campaign” orchestrated against the former President of the Ijaw Youth Council in order to give him a bad name.

“Asari is not in any way used by Muslims at all and he has never sent any Niger Deltan to Kuwait or other Muslim nations for study”, Jackson said.

She said the former Niger Delta militant has a good understanding of the Islamic faith, adding that he would never engage in dastardly acts like some religious fanatics.

She, therefore, urged religious leaders to properly understudy Dokubo before making statements that could endanger his life.

Describing Dokubo as a peace-loving man, Jackson pointed out that he has indigent students of Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba origin in his scholarship scheme.

“Asari has a school where he has children of Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba under his scholarship. He is not a violent person”, she insisted.
