Taraba Acting Gov Denies Setting Up C’ttee On Governorship Bid

garba-umarThe Acting Governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Garba Umar, has denied allegations that he is scheming to become the substantive governor of the state next year.

The Special Adviser on Media to the acting Governor, Aaron Artimas, who spoke on behalf of his principal, denied reports in a section of the media that Umar had set up a campaign committee ahead of 2015 general election.

He described the report as fallacious and misleading, saying it was designed to paint the acting governor as power-hungry and not complying with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s directives on electoral campaigns.

The statement said in part, “The state’s acting governor has not informed anyone of his political intention for 2015, neither has he set up any campaign committee in that respect.

“The report is part of the ongoing campaign of calumny against the acting governor, sponsored by politicians who are bent on disrupting the peace in Taraba State. The acting governor has been busy developing Taraba state while reporting to his principal, Governor Danbaba Suntai, who is recovering fast from the ill-fated plane crash.

“With the tone of the report, it shows clearly where it’s coming from; we all know the politicians in the state who have refused to accept the divine change of political leadership in the state. We know politicians who swore not to acknowledge Mr. Garba Umar as the Acting Governor of Taraba State”.

He added that the state government was not aware of any rally holding in any part of the state.
