Ondo To Enact Law On Cremation To Curtail Ebola Spread

Ondo State Government has disclosed plan to make cremation a law to deal with dead bodies that are brought to the state without certificate on the cause of their death. This is seen as part of measure to curtail the spread of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the country.

Governor Olusegun Mimiko, disclosed the government’s plan while speaking at the inauguration of the Ondo Central Missionary Diocese of the African Church Nigeria and Overseas at the Ebenezer African Church cathedral, Akure.

Mimiko also advised the people on precautionary measures against being infected by the Ebola virus, saying they should avoid touching dead bodies killed by the disease and those they did not know what killed them.

According to him, the ebola virus would be defeated if Nigerians do what they are supposed to do. He therefore advised people to observe personal hygiene practices including frequent hand washing with soap and water and avoiding unnecessary bodily contact, even in church.

Also speaking, Primate of the church, Reverend Emmanuel Josiah Udofia, ordered that all body contacts should be avoided in all churches of the denomination for now.

Udofia, who inaugurated the missionary diocese, said “Although God can heal all diseases and protect His own people, we must not take unnecessary risk.”

“We do not know who is who and disease is not written on any face and that is why everybody must take caution on what they do,” he said.

Udofia also said all churches must stop the practice of using the same cup during administration of Holy Communion.
