Liverpool Confirm Spanish Full-Back Moreno Deal

Liverpool announced late on Tuesday evening it has reached agreement with Sevilla on the services of Spain full-back Alberto Moreno.

Moreno was left out of Coach Unai Emery’s squad as Sevilla conceded the Uefa Super Cup to Real Madrid in Cardiff on Tuesday night.

The ‘Reds’ said in a statement: “Liverpool can confirm they have reached an agreement with Sevilla for the transfer of Spain international full-back Alberto Moreno.

“We will proceed with the formalities of finalising the deal for the 22-year-old over the coming days and will make no further announcement until it is complete.”

Moreno was in the stand at the Cardiff City Stadium and took to the pitch surrounded by his team-mates to bid a tearful farewell to the Europa League winners’ fans.

Manager, Emery, who had dismissed transfer speculations concerning Moreno, admitted defeat in his bid to hold on to the Sevilla academy product in his post-game briefing.

“This has been in the offing for a month-and-a-half,” Emery said. “We are in England and close to teams that ere interested in Alberto. We want to wish him all the best.”

Moreno will become the eighth player to arrive at Anfield this summer as the Merseyside club continue to “add a bit more depth to their squad” ahead of the 2014/15 season, which will have them return back on the European stage.

Strikers Rickie Lambert and Divock Origi have already being added to the club’s squad, albeit the latter Belgian returns to former club Lille Metropole on loan. Midfielders Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Lazar Markovic have also arrived at the club while defenders Dejan Lovren and Javier Manquillo will also be competing for a first team shit this season.

Brendan Rodgers’ men ended their pre-season campaign on a winning note, seeing off Borussia Dortmund 4-0 at Anfield on Sunday.

After finishing runners-up the Manchester City last season, the 18-time champions will start the new Premier League season at home to Southampton in four days’ time.
