Injured Fiorentina Striker Rossi Ruled Out of Serie A Opener

Fiorentina have announced that striker Guiseppe Rossi has suffered a knee injury in training.

The Italy international is set to be sidelined from the Serie A club’s league opener at Roma on August 30.

Rossi, 27, hurt his right leg in training last week. Subsequent tests have revealed no serious damage to the striker’s knee.

A statement from the club read: “The test done have excluded any muscle injuries in his thigh. However, the exams did reveal signs of excessive pressure being put on his right knee. The player will rest and receive appropriate treatment for at least seven days before undergoing further tests.”

Rossi, a Liverpool transfer target, missed four months of last seasons with a knee injury before returning to play in May. The Italian had already undergone two operations to reconstruct cruciate ligaments in his knee.
